GAME INFORMATION

I wrote up on the web site http://earth54.obsidianportal.com/ that your characters joined the US Army after the Bombing of Pearl Harbor in December 7th, 1941.  You joined to fight the Axis using what abilities you have even if you are not an American it seems the Americans are finding ways to unify the super heroes of other countries under the Freedom Company.

If Your Character was a Superhero before the United States entered the War, your Secret Identity is considered classified top secret at the highest levels. Your character’s Code Name will be your Hero Name (that you have been using all along)  and you will be allowed to wear your hero costume (it will be encouraged for moral purposes as well seeing a recognized hero fight the Axis and bring fear to them is encouraged).
If your Character was not a super hero but had special abilities and/or training that qualified them to be in Freedom Company that. He or she is given a Code Name and your Secret ID is considered classified top secret at the highest levels.
If your Character is not from the United States that is fine your character was allowed in as long as the character is from a member of the Allies. He or she is given a Code Name unless already had a Hero Name then that would be your Code Name and your Secret ID is considered classified top secret at the highest levels.
Female Characters are allowed in because having Super Powers (or training like Batman has) is so unique and needed for the effort Rosie the Riveter Super Heroes are even accepted in the War Effort. He or she is given a Code Name unless already had a Hero Name then that would be your Code Name and your Secret ID is considered classified top secret at the highest levels.
If your Character is something like an Alien, from a lost civilization like Atlantis, a Time Traveler and that is fine but your character had to show the Allies in their past that they can be trusted in some sort of way. He or she is given a Code Name unless already had a Hero Name then that would be your Code Name and your Secret ID is considered classified top secret at the highest levels.
If I am missing anything or if you have a Question ask.

Now if you decide you all want to be your own team of super heroes, who joined up for the good fight examples being: DC’s All Star Squadron from the comics and seen on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow TV show where the characters fight the War Effort on their own Terms that is fine or a team like  Marvel Comics Invaders comic which was a team of super heroes that Captain America was the leader of that had members like Namor or Human Torch 1 (Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four was the 2nd Human Torch in Marvel Comics).

Now teams like Marvel’s Sgt. Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos (the Howling Commandos were in Captain America: The First Avenger and Agent Carter TV series minus Nick Fury) or DC’s Sgt. Rock and Easy Company can also be used for inspiration as well keep in mind the Power Level of those teams are 6-8, while the game you will be PL 10 meaning much more powerful than those builds.

No matter if you go for a Military Super Hero Unit or Super Hero Team fighting the Axis, the adventures will mostly be the same.
SETTING
The game is going to be taking place in Europe, Africa, Russia and the Pacific Theater meaning the Philippines, China, Southwest Asia, even Japan, but let’s not forget water as well. Aquatic Characters will be useful in those story lines.

But you will also be back State Side as well for various reasons as some Super Villains (maybe someone from your character’s background and/or Rogues Gallery)  might use this time to do dastardly deeds or maybe even working with the Nazis or worse Die Kriegfuhrer, the Nazi Super Villain team.

The Axis is into World Domination and will use any means they see fit. Even going after ancient artifacts, track down legends etc. (They did this in the actual WW2 which inspired Indiana Jones and the like Movies as well as various comic books). Even fringe experimental science as well making them a threat to anyone.

THEME
This is a game taking place during World War II and let’s be real War is a horrible thing in real life, but this is a game. We all know the Holocaust happened but no one knew in WW2 until they started to find the camps. A lot of horrible things happened we know it did, but this game is meant to have fun and this is a romantic view you can say of the War.

World War II movies, books, comics don’t always go into the harshness of what happened and we are not. This is Superheroes in Capes and Cowls (and other things) fighting the good fight a truly great evil for one of the rare times in history we can say that. Nazis evil the end.

I plan on having this fun the kind of influences I am taking from this game are a lot of the classic WW 2 movies especially the John Wayne and Audie Murphy ones, Indiana Jones movies, Inglorious Basterds, Captain America: First Avenger, Wonder Woman TV series (1st season was in WW2 and I haven’t seen the new movie yet), Dead Snow, Where Eagles Dare and others.

Comic Book Influences are: Hellboy, Captain America, Wonder Woman, Blackhawk Squadron, GI Joe, Invaders, Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos, Sgt. Rock, GI Combat, various Pulp work etc.

Books: Weird Wars (It is a World War II RPG where you fight supernatural monsters), Glory Days (Brave New World WW 2 Supplement), Werewolve$$ which is about Nazi SS Werewolves, Wolf Hour about a British Werewolf Spy in World War 2 etc.

TEAM
This is team game most table top gaming is there are exceptions, but this is not one of them.  This means working together as a group. Even Wolverine the so called Lone Wolf of the X-Men is mostly a Team Player and same with Batman when working with the JLA. Keep that in mind with your concepts, I don’t want a bunch of overly broody characters in this. Too much of that can derail games why we are all talking concepts and working together the first night (and use the email group why it was created). I want this worked out ahead of time not the cliche let’s wait and see.

ROLES
Like in most RPGs and in actual comic book stories there are Roles to consider for the team. Superhero games usually have people falling into these roles.
The Leader, there is always a leader where would the Avengers be without Captain America’s leadership or even Superman’s leadership in the JLA and in Mutants & Masterminds there are Advantages like Inspire, Leadership and Teamwork for example that Leader-styled characters can take to help help the team and lead them. These help team mates in battle or shrug off injuries to go the extra mile.
The Brick be it a Paragon or Powerhouse there is always a character physically strong and tough on a superhero team such as Fantastic Four’s Thing or JLA’s Superman. A powerfully tough character who is strong can help the party in many ways from lifting heavy objects to save victims of war or going one on one against strong opponents.
The Intellect this is usually someone who has some sort of Science background (Expertise: Science), but a specialist in something like Archaeological, Physics, History, Engineering etc. But that doesn’t have to be the case could also be someone who is an expert in the Occult or Mystic Arts (Expertise: Occult or Mystic Arts). This could also be a character from another world like Atlantis for example. This can be anything from Iron Man Types to Indiana Jones to even Dr. Strange.
The Loose Canon there is always one character that lives for combat and or the one that is really good at what he is, while everyone is great at what they do the Loose Canon is the one that thrives the most in combat. Wolverine is a good example of this one.
The Weapon Specialist probably the most common this can actually be the Archetype or other Archetypes. Usually has a special weapon or skill set that can make them useful. One character could have a Super Shield and the other is an elite infrantryman with an arsenal of specialized weapons. Green Arrow or any GI Joe Character from the 1980‘s.
The Patriot the one that lives and breathes their country and loves it. Usually wearing a costume showing their nation’s colors and/or flag. Does not have to be American could be any of the Allies Nations. Captain America and Citizen Steel are some famous examples.
The Hero this is always the character people look at for inspiration a lot of times combined with the Patriot but not always. This is usually the character with the most ideal look at the world and to set things right maybe because they see with Great Power Comes Great Responsibility. The Flash or Spiderman are good examples of these.
The Energy Projector someone who has a lot of power in their hands that can use it usually at a distance. Range abilities are great, but a lot of times overlooked. Be it innate power or special weapons designed. Cyclops and Captain Cold care good examples of these.
The Infiltrator i.e. the Rogue someone does the dirty work. Someone is stealthy and/or has contacts with all the wrong people. A skill set that is often needed is someone who can scout ahead or sneak into places. Batman is probably the greatest example but there are others.
The Pilot sometimes there is a need to have someone being able to pilot vehicles for the group or maybe has a costumized vehicle like a tank or special flying vehicle. In this setting this can be very useful as a character type. Although not all the Quickstart Archetypes has something like this this is something I can help with. DC’s Blackhawk Squardron and GI Joe characters like Cover Girl are good examples of those.
The Face, this isn’t the hero. The Face is the one that knows people in various countries and may speak several languages. Many times a spy or special ops person think Black Widow as a great example of this one.

ADVANTAGES/POWERS BAN
No Luck Advantage.
No Luck Powers.
No Time Powers Period.
These disrupt the game too much.

NOTE ON CHARACTER CREATION
Before we go on here. We are making Characters 1st Game. We are all going to talk about our characters if you have secrets just tell me in email or private please. But powers and general concepts we are going over. I am sure you are all itching to try out the game and Character Creation. I know I would and feel free to work on ideas and such, but keep in mind programs like Hero Lab I don’t use.

SUPER POWERS AND BEING OMNIPOTENT
I know when you look at your character when it is all done you are going to go wow I can do everything and I should. Why I need the others. Don’t all in that trap no one covers everything for one and two this this a team game. Rifts lets you feel the same way but I will tell you this from experience there is always something the GM has that is stronger. No character has every skill or do everything they can’t and more so what is the point of playing with others if you try to be everything and not letting everyone else play and shine too? Everyone is here to have fun. Superhero powers can make you feel like you can do everything don’t let that suck you in please.

TECHNOLOGY
I know that this is a question I have been asked. In one of the GM books is the stats on those kinds of equipment and rules. I am working on formating them and put them on the site. Think Dieselpunk think Diesel Mecha, think Rocketeer, think pre microchips. You kind better examples online and later on when I get this up.

QUICKSTART TEMPLATES
All characters are to be built off the Quickstart Templates starting in the Deluxe Hero’s Book, which should cover just about any idea you have. Anything you are interested in not covered I do have other supplements, but I am trying to not overwhelm you and some of the other books have the power levels lower or over the Power Level of the game.  If you come up with a power set or idea you don’t think is there tell me and I most likely have what you need.

PL 10   Power Points: 150

This means that you are starting Avengers/JLA Level.

Now below are the pages for the Quickstart Templates these are designed for you to costumize them meaning you can change them around and create what you want. I have the book pages listed and I have examples of characters you can build there. I am using named heroes and some villains to give you an idea. Remember these are examples and there are more to do. I tried to choose one Marvel, one DC and at least one Independent or Anime in each.
